Dr Andrew Mayes, author of Carl Dolmetsch and the Recorder Repertoire of the 20th Century (pub Ashgate/Peacock Press) discusses the background to Carl Dolmetsch’s repertoire, drawing on information discovered in an extensive collection of manuscript scores and correspondence in the Dolmetsch archive

A celebration of recorder playing in Birmingham, with young and enthusiastic amateur players sharing the stage with professional artists from the UK, Sweden and Italy. The programme celebrates Carl Dolmetsch’s pioneering spirit of commissioning new works and championing of amateur music making, showcasing some exciting newly-commissioned works for recorder ensemble. The programme also includes important and rarely heard works for recorder, harpsichord and string ensemble.
